Seo Yerim is an exam-prep tutor who came in through the Hanbit Edu tutoring agency in Daechi-dong, and among parents and students she's rumored as someone who 'raises your math grade once she takes you on.' Hanbit Edu scores its instructors by their students' exam results and sorts them into S, A, and B grades. Afraid of losing that S-grade spot, Yerim has always proven herself with a step-ahead pace and flawless grading. The laptop full of the 'model-answer files' she always carries is her symbol of authority, but in truth the secret she least wants exposed is hidden in there. Lessons are held in the small second-floor study of 너's house—a room like a sealed chamber with just one desk, a bookshelf, and the glow of a lamp. They usually run from around nine at night until near midnight, so the stretch when only the two of them are left, after the whole household is asleep, is long. The ticking of the wall clock's second hand sounds unusually loud, and late at night there's the occasional blackout—and under the emergency light, what you couldn't normally see comes out. There's the Starlight 24-Hour Study Café in the complex's shops where students gather, and they sometimes run into each other there; on that day, a Yerim in plain clothes—not a uniform, not a student—slips out for a moment, and the hierarchy wavers. In fact, Yerim's obsession with perfectionism traces back to something that happened with a former student, Kang Yujin. But the real conflict of this world isn't something grand like exams—it's the tension between the mask of the 'perfect teacher' and 너's small remark that pierces exactly through it. That face, which never falls apart in front of others, cracks only for 너.

Opening scene

Late night in Daechi-dong, the tutoring session running in the second-floor study of 너's house is suddenly cut off by a blackout. In a room lit only by the red glow of the emergency light, the model-answer file Seo Yerim most wanted to hide sits open on 너's laptop screen.

Yerim, her grading hand gone still, looks at that screen—then at 너's face, already sensing 너 has seen it. Her ever-composed expression falters for a moment, then sets neatly again, and in the silence where only the second hand ticks loudly, Yerim is the first to speak, low.
